Long Range Atomic Potentials in Thomas-Fermi Theory
We prove that the interaction among neutral atoms in ThomasFermi theory behaves, for large separation I, like Π~. The constant Γ is independent of the atomic nuclear charges, but does depend on the relative positions of the nuclei. We also show that Γ is not a simple sum of pair terms, i.e. in TF theory three and higher body terms persist into the asymptotic (in /) region.

We study C60 with the use of Thomas-Fermi theory. A spherical shell model is invoked to treat the nuclear potential, where the nuclear and core charges are smeared out into a shell of constant surface charge density. The valence electron distribution and the electrostatic potential are efficiently computed by integration of the Thomas-Fermi equation, subject to the shell boundary conditions. To...
متن کاملCaloric Curve for Finite Nuclei in Thomas-fermi Theory
In a finite temperature Thomas-Fermi theory with realistic nuclear interactions, we construct caloric curves for finite nuclei enclosed in a sphere of about 4− 8 times the normal nuclear volume. The specific heat capacity Cv shows a peaked structure that is possibly indicative of a liquid-gas phase transition in finite nuclear systems.
متن کاملTheory of ultracold atomic Fermi gases
The physics of quantum degenerate atomic Fermi gases in uniform as well as in harmonically trapped configurations is reviewed from a theoretical perspective. Emphasis is given to the effect of interactions which play a crucial role, bringing the gas into a superfluid phase at low temperature. In these dilute systems interactions are characterized by a single parameter, the s-wave scattering len...
